The isopods are sold in groups of 10. Armadillidium flavoscutatum "Red Head" is a particularly attractive color morph of Armadillidium flavoscutatum, characterized by its light base coloration with a strikingly reddish colored head area. The contrasting markings and compact, heavily armored body make this morph a real eye-catcher in the terrarium.
These animals are from our own breeding stock. These isopods originally come from Albania. When purchased, the isopods are shipped in mixed age and size stages to ensure an optimal start for a successful breeding colony.
Isopods feed on various forest materials such as decaying wood and leaf litter. Additionally, supplementary foods such as calcium (e.g., limestone or cuttlebone) and protein should be offered as part of a balanced diet. Various vegetables are also readily accepted. Vegetables from the onion family (garlic, leek, onions) should be avoided, as well as iceberg lettuce.
A well-ventilated terrarium with wetter and drier areas (humidity gradient) supports stable keeping and good reproduction. Waterlogging should be avoided. Calcium-rich areas are particularly important for healthy shell development.
