Porcellio scaber "Ghost"

The isopods are sold in groups of 10. Porcellio scaber "Ghost" is a light morph of Porcellio scaber, characterized by its whitish to slightly gray-transparent appearance. These animals are very robust, active, and adaptable, making them one of the classic beginner species in the hobby.

These animals are from our own breeding stock. This isopod species originally comes from Western/Southern Europe, but has since become globally widespread as a synanthropic species. When purchased, the isopods are shipped in mixed age and size stages to ensure an optimal start for a stable breeding colony.

The isopods feed on various forest materials such as decaying wood and leaf litter. Additionally, supplementary foods such as calcium (e.g., cuttlebone or limestone) and protein should be offered as part of a balanced diet. Various vegetables are also readily accepted. Vegetables from the onion family (garlic, leek, onions) should be avoided, as should iceberg lettuce.

Porcellio scaber is a very resilient and fast-breeding species. A well-ventilated terrarium with moist and drier areas (humidity gradient) supports stable husbandry and strong populations. Waterlogging should be avoided.
