Troglodillo sp. "Soil"
Keeping parameters:
- Temperature: 20–26 °C
- Humidity: high
- Ventilation/Air circulation: medium
- Difficulty: medium to challenging
The isopods are sold in groups of 10. Troglodillo sp. "Soil" is a very special and rather rarely kept Troglodillo form, characterized by its dark, earthy coloration and its strong adaptation to moist, humus-rich soil layers. The animals have a compact build and exhibit a withdrawn, rather ground-level behavior, making them often only indirectly observable in the substrate.
These animals are from our own breeding stock. Originally, these isopods come from Southeast Asia. When purchased, the isopods are shipped in mixed age and size stages to ensure an optimal start for a successful breeding colony.
The isopods feed on heavily decomposed organic material such as leaf litter, decaying wood, and humus-rich substrate. Additionally, supplementary foods such as calcium (e.g., cuttlebone or limestone) and proteins should be offered as part of a balanced diet. Various vegetables are also readily accepted. Vegetables from the onion family (garlic, leeks, onions) should be avoided, as should iceberg lettuce.
A constantly slightly moist but well-ventilated substrate with many hiding places is crucial for stable keeping and successful reproduction. Waterlogging should be avoided at all costs.
