Armadillidium gestroi

The isopods are sold in groups of 10. Armadillidium gestroi is an extremely popular and colorful species of pill bugs (woodlice), characterized by its striking black and yellow markings and heavily armored body. Their high-contrast patterns make them one of the most decorative species in the hobby.

These animals are from our own breeding stock. These isopods originally come from Italy. When purchased, the isopods are shipped in mixed age and size stages to ensure an optimal start for a successful breeding colony.

The isopods feed on various forest materials such as decaying wood and leaf litter. Additionally, supplemental foods such as calcium (e.g., limestone or cuttlebone) and proteins should be offered as part of a balanced diet. Various vegetables are also readily accepted. Vegetables from the onion family (garlic, leeks, onions) should be avoided, as should iceberg lettuce.

A well-ventilated terrarium with both moister and drier areas supports successful keeping and breeding. Waterlogging should be avoided.
