The isopods are sold in groups of 10. Cylisticus convexus is a widespread European pill woodlouse species characterized by its elongated-oval, slightly convex body and grayish-brown to lightly marbled coloration. It is considered very adaptable and robust and frequently occurs in natural habitats such as leaf litter, under stones, and in moist soil areas.
These animals are from our own breeding. When purchased, the isopods are shipped in mixed age and size stages to ensure an optimal start for a stable breeding colony.
The isopods feed on various forest materials such as rotten wood and leaf litter. In addition, supplementary feeds such as calcium (e.g., cuttlebone or limestone) and proteins should be offered as part of a balanced diet. Various vegetables are also readily accepted. Vegetables from the onion family (garlic, leeks, onions) should be avoided, as should iceberg lettuce.
A well-structured terrarium with moist and drier areas (humidity gradient) supports stable keeping and good reproduction. Waterlogging should be avoided, while sufficient hiding places and leaf layers promote natural behavior.
