• No strong overheating

• High and consistently moist
• Wood must never dry out
• Still no waterlogging

Enclosure

Best:

• small enclosed terrarium
• small plastic box
• test tube/tube setup for small colonies

Important:
👉 small spaces work better than large ones
👉 the animals like confined, stable conditions

Setup

The most important: Wood

The colony lives practically entirely in wood.

Needed:

• slightly rotten wood
• moist wood
• preferably hardwood
• partially decomposed

Suitable:

• beech
• oak
• other slightly rotten deciduous wood

Fresh or dry wood works poorly.

Substrate

Optional and only thinly:

• wood mould
• rotten wood substrate
• slightly moist material

Many keepers use almost only pieces of wood.
