The isopods are sold in groups of 10. Porcellio laevis "Black" is a dark color morph of Porcellio laevis, characterized by its deep grey to almost black coloration and smooth, slightly glossy body. These animals are very active, robust, and are among the fast-growing and easy-to-keep isopods in the hobby.
These animals are from our own breeding. Originally, these isopods come from the Mediterranean region. When purchased, the isopods are sent in mixed age and size stages to ensure an optimal start for a stable and fast-growing breeding colony.
The isopods feed on various forest materials such as decaying wood and leaf litter. Additionally, supplementary feeds such as calcium (e.g., cuttlebone or limestone) and proteins should be offered as part of a balanced diet. Various vegetables are also readily accepted. Vegetables from the onion family (garlic, leek, onions) should be avoided, as should iceberg lettuce.
Porcellio laevis is a very active feeder and robust species with a high reproduction rate. A well-ventilated terrarium with structured moist and drier areas (humidity gradient) supports stable keeping. Waterlogging should be avoided.
