Porcellio laevis "Orange"
Keeping parameters:
- Temperature: 20–28 °C
- Humidity: moderate to high
- Ventilation/air circulation: medium to high
- Difficulty: easy
The isopods are sold in groups of 10. Porcellio laevis "Orange" is a very popular and particularly active color morph of Porcellio laevis, characterized by its vibrant orange coloration and smooth, slightly shiny body. Due to its high activity, rapid reproduction, and robust nature, this morph is one of the most popular beginner species in the hobby.
These animals are from our own breeding stock. These isopods originally come from the Mediterranean region. When purchased, the isopods are shipped in mixed age and size stages to ensure an optimal start for a successful breeding colony.
The isopods feed on various forest materials such as rotten wood and leaf litter. In addition, supplementary feed such as calcium (e.g., limestone or cuttlefish bone) and proteins should be offered as part of a balanced diet. Various vegetables are also readily accepted. Vegetables from the onion family (garlic, leeks, onions) should be avoided, as should iceberg lettuce.
Porcellio laevis is a very prolific and active feeding species. A well-ventilated terrarium with wetter and drier areas (humidity gradient) supports stable keeping and strong reproduction. Waterlogging should be avoided.
