Porcellio scaber "Ghost Pied"

The isopods are sold in groups of 10. Porcellio scaber "Ghost Pied" is a striking color morph of Porcellio scaber, characterized by its light, whitish-gray base color with irregularly darker "pied" (spotted) areas. The species is very robust, active, and is one of the classic beginner isopods in the hobby.

These animals are from our own breeding stock. Originally, this isopod comes from Western/Southern Europe, but has now spread worldwide as a synanthrope. When purchased, the isopods are shipped in mixed age and size groups to ensure an optimal start for a stable and fast-growing breeding colony.

The isopods feed on various forest materials such as rotten wood and leaf litter. In addition, supplementary feeds such as calcium (e.g., cuttlebone or limestone) and proteins should be offered as part of a balanced diet. Various vegetables are also readily accepted. Vegetables from the onion family (garlic, leek, onions) should be avoided, as should iceberg lettuce.

Porcellio scaber is a very resilient and active feeder species with rapid reproduction. A well-ventilated terrarium with structured moist and drier areas (humidity gradient) supports stable keeping. Waterlogging should be avoided.
