Porcellio scaber "Pied"

The isopods are sold in groups of 10. Porcellio scaber "Pied" is a particularly attractive color morph of Porcellio scaber, characterized by its irregular black and white to cream-colored pattern. Due to their variable markings, hardly any two individuals are alike, which makes this morph very popular in the hobby.

These animals are from our own breeding. This isopod originally comes from Western/Southern Europe, but has since spread worldwide as a synanthrope. When purchased, the isopods are shipped in mixed age and size stages to ensure an optimal start for a successful breeding colony.

The isopods feed on various forest materials such as decaying wood and leaf litter. In addition, supplementary feed such as calcium (e.g., limestone or cuttlebone) and protein should be offered as part of a balanced diet. Various vegetables are also readily accepted. Vegetables from the onion family (garlic, leek, onions) should be avoided, as should iceberg lettuce.

A well-ventilated terrarium with humid and dry areas supports successful keeping and breeding. Waterlogging should be avoided.
